Dispensary Design

Three Sleek and Modern Cannabis Dispensary Designs

As the cannabis industry matures, customers have more choices than ever when it comes to choosing their preferred dispensary.

No longer limited to ‘head shops’ and high-security dispensaries designed like prisons, the modern cannabis consumer prioritizes the look and feel of the dispensary just as much as the product it sells.

Sleek dispensary designs can help build this customer loyalty by focusing on curating a positive shopping experience and customer flow through the retailer. Throughout North America, there are many dispensaries that are doing this well – creating their own unique stores and stories using modern dispensary design.

Pure Options – Lansing, MI

This Pure Options provisioning center in Lansing, Michigan, serves as a flagship location for the brand. Designed with a modern-industrial feel, the retail area features Pure Options’ signature hexagonal logomark and showcases the Flower Capsule 1.0, created by Seven Point Interiors

The Flower Capsule 1.0 is one of the most eye-catching features in the retail space and encapsulates cannabis for customer viewing within a wall-mounted sphere which keeps the flower fresh in a moisture packed chamber. This stainless-steel product display capsule magnifies the cannabis and allows customers to get a clear view of the flower’s structure and trichomes, while the gravity sensor valve safely releases the plant’s aroma.

Customers at Pure Options enjoy the brand’s focus on education created with sleek and modern design utilizing the building’s original industrial fixtures. Within the brightly lit retail area, angled display tables and minimalist display shelves wrap around the store while high-touch digital screens allow customers to discover important details of the brand’s signature stains, including batch information, terpene profile, and cannabinoid content.

Seoul Cannabis – Toronto, ON

Seoul Cannabis is a Toronto dispensary founded by industry veteran Seung Lee to honor his Korean roots and his love for the country’s hip hop and street scene. The space is also used as a form of protest against harsh laws and antiquated societal views of cannabis in his home country.

Seoul Cannabis is centered around a graphic identity inspired by Minhwa, a Korean folk art, and many of the designs focus on the narrative of the rabbit. The rabbit’s story, which is explained graphically on the walls of the dispensary, revolves around enticing a fierce tiger with a smoking pipe in the hopes to prolong his life and not get eaten. The rabbit also represents those trying to influence and change the clashing perceptions and laws in Korea as they pertain to cannabis.

This modern dispensary also features staggered accent walls decorated with Minhwa designs and an album wall dedicated to the founder’s favorite Korean rappers. In addition to celebrating these artists, the wall also serves to highlight the plight of Korean American rappers that have been imprisoned for cannabis use in the highly conservative country.

Seoul Cannabis combines Korean culture and traditional art with The Module System, Seven Point Interiors’ sleek pre-engineered modular fixtures and displays created specifically for the retail cannabis industry. The Module System creates a functional, modern solution for Seoul Cannabis while seamlessly blending with the brand’s identity and message.

Green Qween – Los Angeles, CA

This dispensary in downtown Los Angeles, California, was awarded the only social equity license out of 40 applications. Founded by business partners Andrés Rigaland and Taylor Bazley, Green Qween serves as the community’s first LGBTQIA+ and POC community-focused cannabis dispensary.

Described as a “must-see modern deco dispensary,” Green Qween’s design utilizes repetitive dimensional geometry and iridescent finishes to achieve a serene retrofuture aesthetic. The exterior of the dispensary is designed to complement the local architecture and accentuates many of the existing architectural elements from the building’s former design as a bank in the 1930s.

Green Qween’s design was inspired by 1980s Miami and South Beach and incorporates dichroic accents that paint the space in a prism of light throughout the day. Inside the historic Art Deco building, Green Qween utilizes a sleek apricot and tranquil blue palette accentuated by modern white details. Upon entry, customers are immediately drawn in by the grandiose disco ball embedded into the back wall.

To further elevate Green Qween’s unique message, the dispensary’s design highlights many BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ brands within the store’s display cases. Together, Seven Point Interiors and Green Qween created a space that celebrates expression as much as the queer community it serves.
